Brendan Croskery has been a teacher for thirty-one years.
Now in his fourth year with the Calgary Board of Education,
he served as the Acting Chief Superintendent from April 2001
until his appointment as Chief Superintendent, announced
February 27, 2002. From 1991-1998 he served as Superintendent/Chief
Executive Officer of School District 72 in Campbell River,
British Columbia. He also served in the Province of Newfoundland
and Labrador from 1974-1988 as a teacher, principal and school
board supervisor. From 1971 to 1974 he held his first teaching
appointment in Taunton, England, where he taught in a Grammar
School that was founded in 1615. In addition to his experience
in public schools, Brendan has held university appointments
at the University of Victoria, the University of British
Columbia and Harvard University.
Brendan's academic credentials include six degrees from five
universities in three different countries. His most recent
credentials are a Master and a Doctorate from Harvard University
where he specialized in Administration, Planning and Social
Policy. During this time he won three SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships
from the Government of Canada. He was also awarded the Herold
Hunt Fellowship of the Harvard Graduate School of Education
for his dissertation research. Following his university experiences,
he has undertaken extensive training in personality theory,
leadership development and team dynamics.
Brendan is a graduate of a public school system. He is passionately
committed to public schooling as society's best hope for
personal development and social justice.
