Dr. Joosten Connemann
Past President, Connemann GmbH & Company, Leer, Germany;
current Chairman of the Board, and retired General Manager of Oelmiihle Leer Connemann GmbH & Co., a subsidiary of Archer Daniels Midland Co.
Since 1750 the Connemann family has worked with products from renewable raw materials such as vegetable oils, maize, flax and wood, and in 1887 the first German oilseed extraction plant was established in Leer by the Connemann family. Dr. Joosten Connemann, a visionary entrepreneur and qualified chemist and engineer, laid the foundation for German development of Biodiesel when he and his team developed the CD-PROCESS/Connemann-ADM. Regarded as a pioneer of the German biodiesel industry, he not only created a biodiesel plant that over ten years ago was larger than most commercial plants today, he also was instrumental in creating the demand, through marketing , for the biodiesel he was producing. It continues to be the most advanced biodiesel plant in the market, the European Demonstration Plant for Biodiesel Production, and is currently owned by to ADM (Archer Daniels Midland), a large US company in the agro-industrial business.

Professor Marianne Karpenstein-Machan is a key member of the team at the "Interdisciplinary Center for Sustainable Development" at the University of Gottingen (Germany) working as the Coordinator of the pilot project called "Bioenergy Village". The project is financed by the Federal Ministry of Consumer Protection, Food, and Agriculture, in cooperation with the Agency of Renewable Resources. The project serves as a world model for converting biological material into electrical power and heat.

For the past eight years, Mr. O'Connor has been President of (S&T)2 Consultants Inc, a consulting company on environment and energy issues, and he has been a leader in energy and environmental issues in Canada for over 20 years. He is an internationally renowned expert and consultant in ethanol production and utilization, greenhouse gas modeling and the commercial feasibility of converting softwood residues to ethanol - providing advice to provincial governments, several Canadian federal government departments, and international agencies and governments.


 

Dr. Donald C. Erbach
National Program Leader, Engineering and Energy

Dr. Erbach began his tenure as National Program Leader for Engineering and Energy in 1999. He serves as team leader of the ARS Bioenergy and Energy Alternatives national program. The mission of this program is to develop technology to create jobs and economic activity in rural America, reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil, and improve the environment by developing alternate energy sources and increasing the use of agricultural crops and materials as feedstocks for biofuels.



Prof. Dr. Marcos Fava Neves

Prof Dr. Marcos Fava Neves focuses on strategy and marketing in the Agri-Food Business. As part of that focus, he coordinates the Agri-Energy Research Group that supports agribusiness value chains in renewable energy and sustainability. He is a leading Professor of Marketing & Strategy at the Business Department of FEA/University of São Paulo, Campus of Ribeirão Preto, Brazil.

 


Doug Horner, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, Government of Alberta
Doug Horner is the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Spruce Grove-Sturgeon-St. Albert. In November 2004 he was sworn in as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development. He also serves as a member of the Treasury Board.
On October 3, the Alberta government committed $239 million over the next five years to strengthen and expand Alberta’s bioenergy sector. This significant investment positions Alberta as a potential leader in producing renewable energy from organic materials.

Minister Horner will explain the renewable energy credit program, and how such prgrams can be used, along with policies and programs, to take advantage of the exciting opportunities in the bioenergy sector.

 


Dr. Choo Yuen May, Director - Engineering and Processing Division, Malaysian Palm Oil Board
Dr. Choo is a researcher and inventor of note with a focus on renewable energy and bioenergy, specifically related to palm oil. She is responsible for the development of new, efficient and green processes within the palm oil industry, including work in developing petroleum / palm oil blends supporting the Malaysian government’s initiative that, starting in 2007, all diesel sold in Malaysia must contain 5% palm oil.

Dr. Choo is the Director of the the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, which is responsible for providing the scientific and technological support to the Malaysian palm oil industry.

 

Nancy V. Lever

Nancy Lever has senior responsibility for sourcing and managing investments and is focused on oil sands and heavy oil, frontier activities (i.e. Far North, Canada's East Coast, including LNG) and unconventional gas. Nancy has been involved in the energy sector for more than 25 years and has an extensive range of experience covering oil and gas exploration and production, business development, marketing, research and frontier development.
