Canada's Energy Capital
Canada is an energy superpower. The world's third largest producer of gas,
seventh in oil production, the biggest hydro-electric generator, the biggest
supplier of uranium and one of only two net energy exporters among the G8
countries.
The Oil
Sands in Northern Alberta contain more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia, with
between 1.7 and 2.5 trillion barrels of oil. Investment in the Oil Sands and
related projects is expected to reach $125 billion by 2015.
Canada is the United States' top petroleum supplier and largest foreign
supplier of total energy.
As the energy capital of Canada, it is fitting to hold this event in Calgary —
the decision-making hub and head office of every major oil and gas company in
the country. In addition, Calgary is rapidly becoming an innovative national
centre for financing, designing, constructing and operating electric power
plants that use diverse energy generating sources such as wind, run-of-river
hydro, natural gas, coal and biomass.
