Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA)
Meat & Livestock Australia Limited (MLA) is a producer-owned company that provides services to the entire Australian red meat industry including producers, processors, exporters, live exporters and retailers. MLA has around 30,000 livestock producer members.

MLA's core activities are working to improve market access, building demand for Australian red meat and conducting research and development (R&D) to provide competitive advantages for the industry.

MLA has offices located throughout Australia and overseas including: USA, Korea, Japan, Bahrain & Belgium.

National Food Industry Strategy LTD.
National Food Industry Strategy is a five-year (2002 to 2007) blueprint for increased investment in innovation, increased export growth and improved productivity, efficiency and skills in the Australian food industry.

National Food Industry Strategy (or NFIS) Ltd is the industry-led private company funded by the Australian Government to be 'change agents' in the Australian food industry and to coordinate the implementation of most aspects of the Strategy. To underpin the strategy's success, the Australian government has committed $102.4 million over five years.

Food Science Australia
Food Science Australia is Australia's largest and most diversified food research organization and a joint venture of CSIRO and the Victorian Government.

Food Science Australia is involved with two key National Research Flagship initiatives - Food Futures and Preventive Health. The National Research Flagships are partnerships of leading Australian scientists, research institutions, commercial companies and selected international partners. Specifically designed to integrate, focus and direct Australia's national scientific resources, the National Research Flagships are primarily about building partnerships - and delivering results.

Food Science Australia provides a whole-of-food-chain research and development capability for the food processing industry, from the farm-gate, through product, process and packaging development to storage and distribution trials, sensory evaluation and food safety planning.

Food Science Australia is a joint venture between Australia's CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) and Victoria's Australian Food Industry Science Centre .

Australian Dairy Farmers Ltd.
The Australian Dairy Farmers Limited is the federal organization that represents dairy farming families throughout Australia. ADF consists of dairy farmer organizations from the six States, enabling broad based dairy farmer involvement. Its structure for reporting and policy development allows farmers' views to be expressed from State branches through to the national level on all issues, which are of national and international significance in furthering the growth and prosperity of the Australian dairy industry.

The ADF's main objectives are to promote the development of dairy farming and the dairy industry in Australia. ADF is the dairy commodity council of the National Farmers' Federation (NFF).

Dairy Australia
Dairy Australia is a public company limited by guarantee. Each year, Dairy Australia invests about $35 million of dairy farmer levy payments and $15 million of taxpayer funds in projects for the benefit of farmers, the dairy industry and the community.

They provide technical expertise and essential services - many that are not provided elsewhere - across the whole dairy value chain, from pre-farm and farm activities, through manufacturing to the end products.

All members (dairy farmers and peak industry representative groups) can have a say about what Dairy Australia does, however only Group A members (dairy farmers) can vote on resolutions. All dairy farmers who pay the levy can become Group A members.

Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation CSIRO
CSIRO is Australia's national science agency and serves governments, industries, businesses and communities across the nation.

CSIRO Plant Research
CSIRO Plant Industry is one of the world's leading research centres for plant science, with an annual budget of $78 million and around 700 staff at nine sites across Australia.

CSIRO applies strategic research in the plant sciences to promote profitable and sustainable agri-food, fibre and horticultural industries, develop novel plant products and improve natural resource management. Wheat research is a major focus for CSIRO Plant Industry.

CSIRO Plant Industry also undertakes research into barley and has developed a conventionally bred variety with health benefits for consumers and DNA testing to safeguard Australian exports. CSIRO is conducting research into canola, soybeans, chickpeas and cowpeas as well.

Canberra is the hub for grains, biotechnology agronomic, and natural resources research.
CSIRO Plant Research


Australian Pork
Australian Pork Limited is the national representative body for Australian hog producers. It is a producer-owned not-for-profit company combining marketing, export development, research, innovation and strategic policy development to assist in securing a profitable and sustainable future for the Australian pork industry.

One of the programs of Australian Pork is their Airpork program. Airpork is a brand created for air freighted Australian chilled pork.

In 1997 Singapore imported AUS $200,000 chilled pork a year from Australia. By 2001, sales had risen to AUD$113 million - an impressive 95% market share of the chilled segment. Airpork has been credited with the success of building this program in Singapore.

Department of Agriculture - Western Australia
Western Australia's agri-food sector currently contributes $9.2 billion to the State's economy and employs 10 per cent of the workforce. Being the fastest growing state in Australia, the unemployment level is also the lowest at around 7%.

Western Australia is a major grain grower, accounting for a significant proportion of Australian barley and wheat production.

Similar to Alberta, Western Australia has extensive natural gas reserves. The state supplies liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan, and is developing markets in Taiwan, Korea and other growing Asian economies.

Western Australian State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre (SABC)
The Western Australian State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre (SABC) is the centre for agricultural biotechnology in Western Australia. It is a collaborative university centre for R&D in agricultural and veterinary biotechnology that provides platform technologies and world-class equipment and facilities for R&D in biotechnology to researchers from universities, state government and industry. More than 20 research groups and companies rent space and use the SABC facilities.

The SABC is unique in combining university, state government and industry researchers together in one cost-effective centre

The SABC supports incubation & co-location for new biotech companies. The SABC promotes collaborative research between different groups, including local, national and international linkages.
